With dry needling, a sterile acupuncture needle is inserted into myofascial trigger points. A solution was originally injected into these trigger points using syringes. However, studies have shown that it is not the injection that is responsible for the pain relief, but rather the puncture with the cannula.
With the help of the needles the blood circulation is stimulated, the oxygen supply in the muscle fibers and fascia increases, consequently the inflammatory reaction is reduced. Tension and glue are released.
Dry needling is not a sole therapy. It should be used in combination with e.g. osteopathic or physiotherapeutic treatment.
